So there has been a lapse in updating. I have, in this time, moved house and started uni. I have also revised my rat food recipe again! I hope to get this site up and running again, but it will take some time as I currently have a rather heavy workload.

site updates

I've gone through and done a few things -
* culled old sites from the links page. I know how frustrating it is going to dead sites! If you know of any current breeder sites, emails etc please let me know, or let me know if a particular breeder is no longer breeding.

And that's about it with things I've done. Personal life has been getting hectic so there is less and less time for this. I'm also happy to let the site do it's thing and take orders when they come. I will however be going on holiday in August so all orders will be on hold until mid September.

My rattie boys are doing well, getting into old age nice and slowly :) I have made shelf blankets for the shevles in their cage - they soak up any urine, and make cleaning a breeze! Remove the blanket (with elastic to keep it in place) and throw it in the washing machine along with hammocks! I'd look into selling them cos I haven't seen them anywhere, but have no access to a sewing machine so it isn't a possibility right now.

Flat Out

Apologies to those people whose orders have been a little slow getting to them. I have been flat out in other parts of my life, and unfortunately KK must take second place. I need my regular job to be able to fund advertising and other costs for this.

I've once again revised all of the mixes. This means I need to make up new labels, however the printer is still on death row and unable to be used.

I'm going to be using cat food instead of low fat dog food. Many rat owners have voiced their objections to this, saying that cat food is too high in protein. My concern is that unless nutrition information has been worked out then the protein levels of the whole mix is unknown.

I've worked it out that the cat food can be used in the mix combined with the grains, cereals, seeds, fruit and veg I usually use. I also think it will be better because the cat biscuits are smaller than the dog ones. My boys, Albie especially, are terrible with stashing food. I am hoping the smaller size might help stop it. He only stashes the pasta and the dog food - the 2 largest ingredients.

I'm looking after a couple of mice at the moment too. They refuse to eat the pasta, and mmmh, I think the smaller biscuits will be nicer for them too. Oh, so the new mixes have less pasta too.

So yes... mixes are revised, so will do my best to mail orders tomorrow *fingers crossed* before work.

Just a ramble

It's been a while since I updated, but am still around, the site is still current. Just been busy, lots to do around the house, and assignments that need completing (well, "starting") lol.

I have an order I need to make up today and then mail. I always wonder how successful Krispy Krunch will turn out to be. Initially it was something fun for me to try, and it gave me some motivation to work out better food for my boys. I'd made up mixes I'd seen online, but they didn't seem quite right, and I wasn't happy with them.

Starting Krispy Krunch got me right into the nutrition side of things. Checking protein, fat, sugar levels in everything that was going into each mix. I have spent hours sitting in front of my computer tweaking recipes until they are balanced to my liking. I enjoy it though, messing around with numbers gives me some warped sense of satisfaction!

My boys are well, although Piccolo is worrying me a bit. He seems to be a little off balance, and I swear he is moving is head a little differently. It's not a major change, but there's something going on there that I'm concerned about. I'm keeping a close eye on him though, and hopefully it isn't anything major. He's eating well, moving around enough, is active and happy, so will see how it goes.

I did get my fish tank off ebay! I now have 6 little danios (I think that's what they are), and one weirdly see through goldfish called Filo. They were removed from another tank because they were harassing a big goldfish.

It has been another busy day for me.
I've made up more bags of food (after shopping for ingredients!) and now am playing around with the site.
I have some new photos of the food to put up, but am not very happy with them as they are so will have to do some cropping and resizing. The photos show my new labels, a big change from the initial ones which were quite big.
I'm debating whether to place another ebay ad. I have some ads coming up in this weekends paper, every day over the long weekend, in the Herald Sun (Melbourne paper).
I'm waiting to go and pick up the fish tank I brought on ebay - $10 for (nearly) 2ft tank! Bargain! I can't wait to get it set up and have some fishies again.

First update

I thought I'd add this section to the site so people know what's happening, and can see if the site is still active.
All too often whilst searching for sites to add to my links page I've found fantastic rattery and mousery sites, only to discover that they haven't been updated recently. If anyone knows a good breeder, or great site please let me know and I'll add it to the links page. Which reminds me - I should add a "submit a link" thingo to that page too.
I've been inundated with orders over the last week and am out of ingredients! It's definitely a good sign for the business, just a bit of a hassle running out so regularly! I'll have to buy more!!
