NEW SEASON

Well March has arrived, I don't know where the winter went. The start of the winter was great and very dry for Mull, the last couple of months have been fairly wet but no worse than normal. The ponies are all back at Killiechronan now and are looking great, thanks to everyone who was looking after them over the winter, you have all done a great job.

We had a trial run on saturday and despite the strong wind the ponies were impeccably behaved, as if they've never been away so a good start. Saturday club starts this saturday and this weekend 20th March we will be officially open.

Eeryone tells me it will be a busy season so fingers crossed and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Some of you may remember Damson, she turned 4 earlier this year and was briefly backed by Eilidh and Alice, before going to the stallion at Erray. She is now looking very much in foal as you can see, she is hopefully due at the end of april which will be very exciting. We are hoping that she will produce some future trekking ponies.

On the 16th October 2008 Paula and Ed Sells will attempt to cross the Isle of Mull on horse back. They are borrowing Sid and Caspian for their expedition they hope to camp along the way and expect the trek to take about 4-5 days.

The ride is to raise money and awareness for the 'Riding for the Disabled Association' (RDA). All donations will go directly to the fantastic Oban & Lorn RDA group (which includes Mull riders) who are currently trying to raise £80,000 to build an indoor school to operate in all conditions.

Thank you!

Well it's been such a busy summer things have finally started to quiten down allowing me time to catch up on other things. Thank you so much to all the customers so far this year. Sorry if I was difficult to get hold of during the busy times and thanks for being patient, I do try to get back to everyone on the same day but sometimes it can be difficult especially with poor signal in some areas. And thanks for appreciating that when it is so busy it is impossible for me to answer the phone during the day whilst on treks.

July and August were brilliant months after a slow start in June I was even busier than last year in the last 2 months despite the change in weather. As usual I think it rained for most of the school holidays. The change in trek times seemed to be a success and things were much more organised, it also meant people could turn up on the off chance of a trek at that time and sometimes there was space for them, however it is better to book as there will not be a pony ready otherwise.

Thanks again everyone and I hope to see lots of you back again next year.

September is proving a great month for spotting the sea eagles. The two adults and one chick they produced at Killiechronan this year are almost guarenteed to be sat on the beach at low tide except of course when I have my camera with me. I have yet to get a photo but will keep trying.

Last friday we saw the two adults sat in a tree near the monument just feet away from us. I have seen them once here before a couple of years ago, it is the closest I have ever been, it is amazing how they are not scared of the horses. The poor chick was flying above being attacked by 6 buzzards. A couple of days earlier all 3 were being attacked by a couple of buzzards and gave us a great display diving about trying to avoid them, the size difference was amazing.

Another glorious day for the show. Another early start, we left Killiechronan at 8am after the ponies had a large breakfast and a very good brush after their baths the night before. We then rode over the hill, it took us about an hour and a half so arrived just in time.

The ponies behaved impeccably if a little slow in the heat but nothing new there. Thanks to all the girls for just getting on with it themselves as I had planned to have the day off and show Smokey myself, especially thanks to Mairi who was groom for the day to all 10 of us.

Especially well done to Alice and Daisy who won best pony and best rider out of a class of 18!!! Very impressive. And to Smokey under his real name Erray Larkspur who won m&m in hand and the cup for best highland.

And then we had the long ride home, the ponies were desperate to get back and picked up a great pace, only took us 45 mins on the way home. We arrived back at 7.30 so a very long day for all. Treks as normal at 10 the next day, no rest for the wicked.

We all attended the Mull Pony Club show on sunday, 8 ponies and 14 children from Killiechronan were there and there were 26 horses there in total so it was a great turnout. The day was scorching sunshine and there were some very tired ponies and riders by the end of the day.

Well done to Alice who won the best pony club pony and reserve championship on Daisy and also the novice jumping, and to Eildh who was 4th in best pony club pony on Becky and has improved so much since last year. Especially well done to the games teams who were 3rd and 5th I think and the jumping teams 3rd and 4th.

Also a big thank you to all the children who all looked really smart and did really well with the ponies and were as always wonderfully behaved, thanks also to the parents for supporting us and keeping the children organised, Especially thanks to the girls for all the leading and helping get the ponies ready and there on time, I couldn't do it with out you lot.
