Welcome!

Please add your comments…don't be shy...

This is our fourth year anniversary!

It was October 1st of 2006 that we started 'glow-1' and cast spotlights on the multifaceted challenges of Primary Care Givers. We voluntarily give up our time, energy, health and futures caring for those with dementias and other illnesses to attain a quality of life. We reflect the normal multitudes of ordinary unpaid people across Canada and around the world; just like you, who are collective voices for our loved ones who can no longer dress, speak, or bathe themselves… but they can surely ‘feel’ deep within the darkness of their dementia and they know unconditional ‘love' because we 'love' them unconditionally... .and they 'love' us, sometimes not with their minds anymore - but forever with their hearts.

We celebrate them; and we celebrate us!

In this 'Reflections of Primary Care Givers' forum please add your name, city, province & country to the list of those who lit up a string of lights in 2009 in ‘Glow-4’. If you have (100 Kb or smaller) photo of your lights I will try to post it. Send your particulars and your photo to alzheimerglowers@lycos.com

Or perhaps you can help by posting your ideas on how to illuminate more lights on October 1st at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:time Minute="0" Hour="20">8 PM</st1:time> - 2009 (Glow-4) and every year.

Please, circulate this website address, talk to your family, friends, local, Provincial, Federal politicians (they make the laws). The more lights that glow; the more we will spotlight the plight of Primary Care Givers.

Please reflect our cause and our multifaceted challenges, invisible sacrifices, and endless work for years and sometimes decades, all with no compensation or acknowledgement from government.. Our politicians do not know we are here for many are shut-ins with their loved one venturing out only for Doctor's appointments and to buy food. Or we are the tireless volunteers who visit our loved ones in long term care facilities or hospitals devoting countless hours to our loved ones as well as all the others to offer meals, comfort, exercise, music, a hug, a smile, our love and always hope.

Primary Care Givers are out of sight - out of mind and yet we are the backbone of our ill society! People with dementia have an excuse for not remembering but society wants nothing more than to forget. But we will not let them!

*If you are a Primary Care Giver or person with Alzheimer’s (any dementia) needing support please go to the ‘Alzheimer’s Forum’ on the home page. This is the forum for the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. We are just like you, and help if we can with your concerns. Or perhaps you can help us?
