My name is Shelly Hargis. I am a wife, mother and grandmother and Very Proud of my Family. I Love my Family with all of my heart but it grieves me to bring them up in such a bad period of American Life.

I first want to say that I am an American and I am not anti-government or against what our Country is supposed to be about. I just don't agree, like many others, the way it is run. No, I admit, I could not do it myself, but I would hope that someone that we elect in good faith, would actually do what they promise to do during EVERY ELECTION period.

There are Many things people don't see or refuse to see and many who just don't care. The governments eyes need to be opened and see the real lives of Americans who suffer everyday. A MAJOR Hunger and Homeless problem are just a couple of examples.

I am hoping that this blog will get some feedback as I know that there will be those of you who both agree and those who may oppose my view but this is reality and I know because we are one of MANY families who are living it right now.

It is so hard for Families to get out of a hole once you are in it and their is not much help out there to get you back on your feet. People may say that they are losers or low life but I know the difference between lowlife and being poor and that is where many people get confused.

Many people are dying right under our noses and under the governments noses and it is being overlooked. Not being able to afford Health Insurance, food, housing, your bills, does NOT make you a BAD PERSON or a CRIMINAL. Just an Average American these Days.

It has been about three months now, since the anonymous American Family has been without water and about one month since the heat has been shut off. I had forgotten to mention that about one month ago, Ohioans were hit hard with a wind storm from the remnants of Hurricane Ike, and we were all without Power, some of us for days. During this time, while sitting in the home with no power, food, water, etc..., Vectren, the local gas company, stopped by to put the Icing on the Cake, so to speak, and shut the heat off.

It just amazes me how heartless so many are when you do not have that green stuff in your pockets. It was a horrible time, but we, and they are thankful that the Electric is back on. The daughter and her two kids was forced to temporarily move in with the parents until they can get into a homeless shelter. They have no other place to go and of course the parents would never allow them to be on the streets. They love their family very much but are not able to help much financially because of the situation that they are in, even though they would give them their last crumb.

I just want everyone to know how awful this is. It has been the most stressful time ever on this family. Depression has set in and We think back and hear the stories about how people, during the great depression, were jumping out of windows and such and of course that is never the right thing to do, but we think: How could they do that? But you have to imagine that this is how this family feels. Like giving up. Like there is no way out of this mess. Like they are in this deep, dark place where know one else exists. It is a very scary and lonely place. Deep down we know that there is hope. I guess that there is some who care, they just havent been able to find them yet. Me either.

I want to tell you about an American Family. I will keep their names anonymous.

The husband was working, but do to the economy, the buisness slowed down extremely, when usually the summer months

are very busy. The work became less and less each week until it came to a dead halt. The husband, being good friends with

the small buisness owner, tried to stick with him as long as he could, but eventually had to find new work. During this time

period, which lasted approximately two and a half months, they drastically got behind on their bills. The have been living with

their water off now for about 3 months, had the heat turned off and is on the verge of being evicted. On top of that, neither one

of the Parents have medical Insurance and The wife is stricken with a very painful deteriorating bone disease and cannot do

anything about it. Just waking up each day is a task, mentally and physically.

NO ONE should have to live like this. NO AMERICAN should ever have to go without like this. Something has to be done. This

family is literally dying, yet no one seems to notice or care.

I hope you can share your stories with me. I know that their are many who are going through a living hell right now and I hope

some eyes can be opened from this.
