2008 Baseball Recap

Ok, this might get confusing so I will be as thorough and clear as I can be. Let's jump back to April and look at what was on the table at the time from a Goffstown Baseball perspective. We had just completed tryouts for our school teams, including our first ever, Freshman Baseball team. Even though we had 110 inches of snow between December and April, somehow we had a host of kids ready to play baseball this spring and summer.
Check out these numbers, and I mean, check these out:

Mountain View Middle School went 9-1 in the regular season and 1-1 in the post season to finish second in the Tri-County League.

Our inaugural Freshman squad competed hard in every game and went 7-5.

Our JV team won it's second straight tournament championship and, by the way, they were 23-0 for the season!

Our GHS Varsity team brought home our first Class L Baseball title in an instant classic against #1 seed Salem with a 4-3 victory.

Ok, so we have good school teams, coaches, or whatever... well maybe, but look at this:

Goffstown Legion goes 13-7, qualifies for it's first State Tournament and finishes 5th in the state. 14-9 overall, not bad.

Goffstown 15's lost some players to the Legion team and still battled in every game of their district tournament.

Goffstown 14's win their second straight State Title and advanced to the New England Regional in Orange, CT going 6-2 overall.

Goffstown 13's come from the loser's bracket and win the District III Championship with a sweep over Lamprey River, both by the mercy rule.

Goffstown 11-12's go 5-2 in the District tourney and almost beat Regional finalist, Manchester North along the way.

Goffstown 11's go 6-1 and win the State Title with a sweep of Bedford in the finals.

Goffstown 10's lose in the District One final to Salem, posting a 4-2 record.

Goffstown 11-12's Wooden Bat team went undefeated and won the annual post season tournament held at Manchester East.

Goffstown 9-10's won the Matty Dobens tournament for the third time in four years going 6-0 along the way.

I don't have the overall records for each of the teams but that's some pretty good baseball from our programs!!! Titletown? Sounds good to me. Forgive me if I missed any of the youth baseball teams in Goffstown, but that's an impressive season folks!

We have great kids, great programs, supportive parents, tremendous volunteers, and some wonderful coaches up and down the age groups. Every year I see the kids playing at all different ages and the one thing that stands out the most to me is the passion for our pastime.

Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and families for their achievements this season. If this kind of thing could happen in every town, it would, and believe me it doesn't. Take pride in GTown nation and enjoy the rest of your summer!
