I've just returned from an awesome holiday to Cape Town!  It was a well needed rest.  During my week there I met Allan Liddle from DNA Pixels, which I must say was very informative.  He showed me quite a few things which I didn't even know Blender was capable of doing.  Now that's a guy that knows his Blender 3d!  Then I went to Driver Down's band practice and met their lead singer,  Quewin Keyser, and guitarist Jack Stone for the first time.  Albert, PJ, Nartjie, Quewin and Jack (Gertjie) ... YOU GUYS ROCK! 

I also did a whole lot of cycling (mountain biking & road cycling), went up table mountain and also went wine tasting at a wine farm.  And most importantly I got to spend time with family and friends, many of whom I haven't seen in more than three years!

So ... I've been doing no work lately, but will be getting back into the flow of things soon.  In the meantime here and above are samples of some more magazine work.  We received copies of the latest issue of SKI-BOAT yesterday.  The two images below were made with Blender 3d.



I also did a small test animation of the above diagram, just for fun.

Last year August I finished this grunge-theme self-portrait.  I was absolutely blown away by the Blender community's response.  I released the project files, including the textures etc. for everyone to have a look at.  Its had around 2000+ downloads.  A news item of the same was published at Blendernation.com and the image also made it into the galleries of both the official blender.org site, and at blenderartists.org.

Okay I'm done bragging now :)  Anyone who would like to have a peek at the full project files can grab it here.

Just what the doctor ordered — some hairy and spashy Blender 3d text!  Plus, it made the boss happy which is always a good thing.    I made these for two articles published in Flyfishing magazine.

The hairy one is meant to mimic the hair found on flyfishing flies.  I wonder if a couple of trout will notice it?  Nah, probably too hairy.

Would you like to have a peek at the .blend file for this portrait?  It includes everything, textures etc.  Please note, until Blender 2.46 is released you'll need a Blender SVN build for this, as is makes use of a lot of new features not yet released in the official version.  The latest one for your platform can be downloaded from www.graphicall.org.

I submitted it to EXPOSÉ 6 — a book published annually by Ballistic Publishing (www.ballisticpublishing.com).  Needless to say, I seriously doubt I'll make the cut!

It received quite a few interesting comments from the guys at Blenderartists, here's some of them:

"Nice job, but she is hideous!"

"Looks bit undead to me ..."

"Dear God, please dont let her kill me ..."

"She looks like she's made of painted wood."

"She actually looks like on drugs, ..."

"Nice model but it looks like a guy-girl"

"Its a drag queen lol."

"Kinda looks like Chris Crocker."  (This comment made me lose all hope! )

"Eeww... she's you as a girl, I get it now."  (Should I be worried?)

"You have an interesting perspective."  (Hmmm, maybe I should be worried. )

"Lol reminds me of Buffalo Bill!"
