It's a new year and a new year signifies new beginnings.

Although the Nimitz Tennis Team was unable to convert a victory over Cedar Hill in the finals of the playoffs during the Fall season, redemption is in sight as tournaments go underway this spring season with the concluding District tournament.

Just yesterday, 39 Nimitz tennis players participated in a Fair Oaks Tennis Tournament. We all know that Fair Oaks tournaments consist of the utmost fun. You're able to socialize with your friends, meet new people (especially girls), watch amazing tennis, and last but not least, play tennis.

As usual, this tournament was divided into three divisions, A, B, and C, each consisting of singles or doubles.

Schools that participated were:
*Nimitz High School
*Irving High School
*Naaman Forest from Garland I.S.D
*Poteet High School from Poteet I.S.D
*Trinity High School from HEB I.S.D
*Berkner High School from Richardson I.S.D
*Dallas Christian Charter School
*Anonymous Orange colored school

Each school offered tremendous competition, but in the end it was all fun.

Participants from Nimitz High School, what division they played in, what they played, and how far they advanced, are in the following...

1. Stephen Smith- A Singles. Lost 1st round to Dallas Christian (8-5)
2. Danh Doan/Hyunwoo Kang- A Doubles. Lost 1st Round to Dallas Christian (8-2)
3. Mario DelaPena- B Singles. Lost 2nd Round to Berkner (8-4)
4. An Nguyen/Mariana Hernandez- A Doubles. Lost Semifinals to Naaman Forest

Although there are lots more participants, I don't know them all so I'll be sure to edit this and fix it up later. I need to do some maintenance on here anyway.

EPIC.

That's all that can really decide today's playoffs match against SGP. Nimitz players contested their opponents tremendously well. Shot after shot, our players refused to let their want for victory die out. Stephen played a great tennis player. What seemed to be a long match ended rather quickly and was concluded 1-6 2-6. Stephen played great though, continued to be agressive, and never gave up. I (Danh) played someone who was quite a jerk, and I'm somewhat euphamizing it, because he tried throwing his racket at me. Nothing to do about it now, but it's still messed up. I lost 4-6 4-6. Taylor played #3 singles and practically walked over him with a 6-1 6-3 victory. Marcus pulled through with an amazing victory, no hesitation there. Marcos killed his opponent. Doubles went extremely great. Victories all around all the boys side. Taylor and Marcus had an epic doubles match. They were about to lose but finally pulled through.

The girls played well too! An disposed of her opponent quickly with a 6-1 and who cares about the 2nd set because she won! Although I'm not sure about other scores, I saw GREAT matches from Selene, Angela, Maggie, and Mariana. However, one epic match stuck out in Singles: Andrea Chiles. Although she was down, she still continued to fight and managed to max out her sets, 6-7, 5-7. The average number of shots in one rally was probably 6 or 7 because Andrea refused to give up and fight.

Now, the last match I'm going to talk about reminded me of another match I saw earlier this year. Oh yeah! Wimbledon 2008 Final. That was between Hyunwoo and SGP's #5. Hyunwoo took the first set with a little bit of trouble 6-3 as he sung his hippy song (blakjldksjfaklsdjf john). Hyunwoo then lost the 2nd set 1-6 because he stopped singing. At this point, the whole team is in angst as we watched the third set unfold. Eventually, SGP pushed it to tiebreaker. Hyunwoo became 6-4 up but lost those points. Then he was 6-7 down but then he broke back. This whole cycle (which Stephen described as the First Ring of Hell) continued for quite awhile. Coach was pissed off like no tomorrow. All players of both teams felt like they were going to have heart attacks. Both players had a good amount of match points. Hyunwoo finally pulled through however with a cross court volley on the line.

In the end, we all got on Hyunwoo and carried him because he led us to victory.

Well you haven't really missed much. Our last match was against Cedar Hill, in which we lost 6-13. 4 wins were all we needed and next time, we'll get them.

Amazing matchplay was witnessed by the Nimitz Tennis Team. Shots that looked like only pros could do were seen, such as Marcus' running whipping passing shot...forehand. It was wicked and his opponent already knew it was over as soon as Marcus hit it. Devastating.

Stephen played great against Cedar Hill's freshman Superchamp. Although Stephen lost 0-6 3-6, he put up a great fight against the freshman.

Congratulations go to Hyunwoo at #5 Singles, Marcos at #6 Singles, Marcus at #4 Singles and all the girls who did an EXCELLENT job in doubles and singles.

The playoffs begin tomorrow. Nimitz is gonna rock the house tomorrow at SGP, while Irving hopefully somehow defeat Cedar Hill (lol). Please, if you can come, then DO come! We LIKE support!

Furthermore, I need TENNIS pictures of people and the JV lineup. I have no idea what it is. And this isn't Coach btw to whoever is JV #2. It's Danh.
