]]>We told him we'd wait to eat dinner until he got back and I asked him to get some jello pudding for us to eat for dessert.
While we waited for him to come back from the store, I set the table and put the steaks and broccoli out too.
He arrived back from Safeway w/ bags of groceries (Thank you Matthew) and we started eating.
Paige is our picky eater. Today she decided she didn't like the toast I made for breakfast so she didn't eat. She didn't like the lunch I packed, so she didn't eat again. She ate Veronica's gingerbread house on the bus home and she wasn't very impressed w/ the steak and broccoli I put out for dinner.
We told her she needed to eat one slice of meat or she wouldn't get the jello pudding for dessert.
We finished our dinner and Paige was still looking at the slice on her fork.
Matthew tried to convince her to eat her steak and in exasperation he yelled
"How can we have any pudding if you won't eat your meat?!"
]]>When we walked in, we saw a blow-up Homer Simpson Christmas decoration on display. It was on sale half-off and Matthew was trying to reach it but he couldn't. An employee walked up and told him she'd get it and that a lot of the Christmas stuff was half off.
I went over to the photo section to get the ink filled while Matthew got his Homer.
The guy at the photo section asked me my name and told me it would take 15 minutes.
I met Matthew in the Christmas section and told him the news.
We were looking at the sale items when I looked toward Matthew and saw the employee who helped Matthew w/ Homer, looking at us. She came over and pushed all the buttons on all the toys that made noise. Pretty soon she had an audience of customers and employees watching her push the buttons.
Later we walked around to the magazines. We were both reading magazines when a guy walked up and stood by me too close, in my personal space. I was looking at my magazine, wondering why he was so close he could touch me and what Matthew must have been thinking. I was wondering how we were going to get away from this guy when he said "So anyways." He was the photo guy holding my printer cartridge. He explained why he couldn't fill it.
Matthew and I decided it was time to get out of the twilight zone, but we still had to pay for Homer. The cashier started to put Homer's box in a grocery bag when Matthew said we didn't need a bag.
The cashier pulled the bag off it's holder and threw it in the trash while he looked at me as if he expected me to say something.
At this point Matthew and I ran screaming from the building.
You know we didn't, but we wanted to.

Matthew who's such a good father he's building doll houses for the girls for Christmas. Matthew who's such a good husband, he anticipates when I will need decongestant and acid reducers.
]]>So yesterday I was happily doing just that and realized I was going to have to take the check to the bank before they posted for the day.
My plan was to drop the check off at the bank, pick up the kids at school, take them to the dentist, go home and make dinner before church school at 6:30 pm.
I was sitting on the couch crocheting some fingerless mittens for a little girl's birthday, when I felt the pressure to go to the bank. I looked at my watch and thought to myself that I had plenty of time. Still I felt the urgency to get up and leave. It was like that late feeling, only I wasn't late.
So, ok, I got up and gathered my purse and a bottle of water and drove to the bank.
I thought to myself that since I didn't have the girls, I could go in the bank instead of driving through. So I got out of the truck and walked in the bank.
After I got in the bank and walked around the corner to the tellers I almost ran into a man. I barely had enough time to look up at him and say excuse me before he was gone.
Have you ever tried to remember everything from a lost split second?
I walked up to the deposit slip desk and realized everyone was frozen. One woman started saying things like "how tall was he?" "What color was his shirt?"
I said "Who? That guy?"
I was the only person who got a direct look at the man who robbed the bank w/ a note and his ball cap down over his face.
The poor pregnant woman he chose as his teller was crying.
They locked the doors behind me and we waited for the police.
First I talked to a Wells Fargo big shot who arrived after he heard the news. Then I talked to the police. Then a teller answered the phone and informed her boss the FBI was on the line. I asked her how many times she has said that in her life.
I waited for the FBI and told my story again.
I am happy to say by the time I left two and a half hours later, the pregnant teller was sitting on a stool eating a snack and feeling much better.
Everyone was very nice. They even offered me one of their free ponies you get when you open an acct. I said "I can't go home w/ one stuffed pony. Can I be completely selfish and ask for two?" They gave me two and a bottle of water (mine was in the truck).
The interesting thing is when I told my story last night, I found people were worried about the robber. How did he get to the point he felt he had to rob a bank?
It makes me think. We have to take care of eachother so our friends don't take drastic measures. Now I'm not saying your neighbor is going to rob a bank, but what if they have to sell something they really don't want to part w/ or spend Christmas alone to keep a job.
]]>So, I talked to Matthew in Canada, about the lights being off in the two rooms downstairs. He said I would have to go outside and flip the breaker. I told him there was no way I was doing that in the dark, so it would have to wait. The next day I forgot to go out there and check, so it didn't get done.
That night Veronica told me the tree wouldn't turn on. I said it must be connected to the two rooms that weren't working.
Then Paige said "Or maybe because there's a necklace in the plug."
Well yes. That would be a valid reason.
The neighbor came over and we investigated the plug. It had black all over the front. He took it apart and there was no necklace in it.
I asked Paige where the necklace was and she said "It got thrown behind the couch and I can't reach it."
I reached the necklace and it was covered w/ black too.
The neighbor went outside and flipped the switch and everything works.
Paige and I had a long talk.
One day we will look back on this and laugh.
For today though, I am not going to cover all the plugs w/ covers, because she was sufficiently scared from the whole procedure enough to throw the necklace behind the couch.
Poor thing, she must have been scared with her little secret for two days, at least.
Maybe this was why I needed the red mustang promise??
I'm sure there will be many more moments I realize I'm thankful we didn't win that car.
